:::First encounter:::
The very first time I met the bride and groom was at their home. They had a beautiful and inviting home. I was served some baked goods and coffee in this cute and matching serving set. I love meeting with clients at their home because I can see more of their personalities through their home. They were simple, contemporary and oozing of style. I loved the artwork hung in the living room. Right of the bat, I could tell it would be a joy to work with them. They were down to earth, quirky and easy going.
While going around their home, they remarked how few images they had of themselves. They were pointing to a shelf of a small framed picture taken on Guro’s friends wedding (in fact this was taken by my photographer friend Hans Petter) as their sole picture of them. And as they also mentioned that in Facebook, almost all their pictures are there because they were tagged in them…So there it was, my mission, to give them an abundance of pictures of them worth displaying!
The day approached and I was getting more giddy and excited. I was given a guest list with description of the guests which would be incorporated in their program, and it sounded like a big, joyful merry troop.
:::The preps:::
Guro, the bride, was having her preps, hair and makeup done at Inch frisør at St. Hanshaugen. Along with her was her maid of honor, Marthe (I used to work with her and she is just so super friendly and bubbly), her one and only sister, Silje and flowergirl and niece, Embla. She thrived in front of the camera and would really seek the camera the whole evening. She also loves being all girly and having her nails done. The staff at Inch was so friendly and their place was nothing short of awesome. It was a large space with a lot of cool details.
Guro was calm since I first greeted her, but as the wedding dress was put on and it dawned upon her that she IS really a bride, I could see her filled with nerves and excitement. I felt really happy for her and I suddenly also got a flashback of how it was being a bride.
In the mean time, two minute walk away from the beauty parlor, at their own home, the groom was getting ready. Rumors has it that the day had begun sinking in and that the nerves were surfacing. My second shooter, who also happens to be my talented and artsy sister, was behind the lens this time. The fun thing of having a second shooter is when I transfer all the files to the computer and sort by capture time, you can then see what the groom and bride was doing at the same given time.
Egil had a larger following at his preps. His coming family in law and his best man and childhood friend, Per-Ole, was present and helping him out in every which way they could.
In the description of all the guests, Per-Ole was described as someone who always had shoelaces to be tied since he was a little kid, so his expertise in tying shoelaces was well appreciated by the groom :)
At Guro & Egil´s home, they had this really nice balcony and it was the perfect place to chill and calm down some wedding jitters.
:::The nuptials:::
The ceremeony was held at Gamle Aker kirke. It is the oldest standing building in Oslo. It had some beautiful stonewalls and ornamental treecarvings in the preacher’s chair.
Guro here exhaling and getting ready for her entrance with her dad.
Guro and Egil kept it really traditional and at my first meeting with them, Guro had to sneak me away to show the wedding dress. Now I can’t guarantee that Egil was a good boy all the way and stayed out of the “forbidden closet” till their wedding day ;) One thing I am sure of though in their expressions here is without doubt happiness upon seing each other as a fullly pledged bride and groom.
Suddenly the nerves so evident on Guro before entering became safety and comfort upon being reunited with him again.
The excact moment that Egil utters his sweet and determined “ja”!
:::The photoshoot:::
The weather was smiling upon us. I think both me and Guro was frantically checking weather apps days before the wedding. We were extremely relieved to see how the weather fell to place in our favor and gave us wonderful conditions to have our pictorial at the back of Gamle Aker kirke.
And while the guests rode away to the venue in a bus the couple had provided for, we headed over to a “pit stop” in Saga hotel, a newly renovated hotel within Oslo. Their ride was definitely catching people’s attention. A rare Cadillac, and if my memory serves me correct, this was the only one of its kind in Europe.
:::Cocktails:::
Øverland gård, the venue, was a little bit outside Oslo and besides the area that is rented out for weddings and parties, it is surrounded by vegetation and the earth’s good produce and an arboretum with a collection of both familiar and more exotic kind of trees.
Guro´s loyal “torsdagsklubben” was of course present for the occasion.
The brothers were famous for their version of the “Magnum” look of Derek Zoolander for those that knows this hillarious comedy with Ben Stiller.
:::Dinners and speeches:::
Dinner time was defintely rich with speeches. Certainly because there were many who wanted to share good memories of them. Very few tears, but mostly laughter which sets the tone of the personalities of Guro and Egil. I can foresee a marriage filled with good laughs till they’re grey and wrinkly! Dinner was courtesy of Anneledes Brød & Cirkus and we had the pleasure to savor the tender meet of deer for dinner. The vegetables were so crisp and fresh and the sauce just complimented the deer so well. So compliments to the chef! The staff was so nice and accomodating with us! Corteous and professional.
The evening’s toastmaster Frode introduced the dinner and provided a good dose of humor along the way!
I told you there were lots of laughter going around. And I must admit I ws guilty of such myself throughout dinner time.
:::The party:::
After dinner was served, we all headed to the first floor. Another thing we got to know throughout the evening is that there runs a tradition of carrying their loved ones in this family, and I think the caketopper speaks for itself. There’s even more of that in the slideshow. Remember the single image I told you about in their apartment, well if I am not mistaken Egil carried Guro there too!
Looks like the folks were smitten with the lovebug as love was defintely in the air this evening.
Egil, singing to the tune “eye of the tiger”. This was defintely his moment in the limelight. He sang to a hoard of screming female fans almost comparable to the Bieber mania we witnessed in Oslo’s street not so long ago :P
And it is only appropriate to share the stage with your wifey! She knew how to rock and shake it too!
And as the evening mellowed down, the tune of the classic Moonriver was put on and they took to the dancefloor. It was a perfect ending to a wholesome evening for us.
Thanks Guro and Egil for letting us document your special day. There were many more images I wanted to share in this post, but I had to restrain myself to not overfill it with images.
It was truly with pride and joy to meet your loved ones, to interact with your kind and well chosen suppliers and just get to know you both even more. From the start, I knew it was going to be a great ride and I can definitely say that I was right! We wish you a long and prosperous marriage. Take good care of each other, keep the flame burning and just continue be the funloving couple you guys truly are!
I leave you with a slideshow with a couple of extra pictures in it. Enjoy!
Wow, great to see the fruit of our labour! You did a great job in the editing! We make a great duo sis hehehe. Love being your second shooter. Even though my whole body was aching after the shoot I still had a blast!
